A Fully Mechanical Carving Machine Without Using Any Software:

Main Feature:
Given a specific model, this machine is capable of creating a simple copy, symmetric copy, scaled copy, or scaled symmetric copy of the original model.


Independent Scaling Feature:
For any given scaling factor, it provides all of above functionalities. Also the scaling factor of Z axis (height) is independent of that of X/Y axis (radius) , in essence the scaled version can be shorter/taller and/or thinner/wider than the original model.

Multiple Distributing Feature: Also, assume that you got a model having a non carved logo on its surface, this machine can create a copy version of it with 2, 3 or more logos evenly distributing on its surface.

Artistic & Decorative Feature: Further more, using a very simple model like a rectangular cube, this machine can create several different types of unique statues which are very suitable for artistic designs and decorative objects.

Applications:

Copying: Carving an exact copy of an object.
Can be used to copy sculptures, art pieces, industrial forms.

Scaling: Carving a scaled version of an object.
Can be used for scaling sculpture, carving shoe forms, gun leg forms, axe handles, etc.

Symmetrically Scaling: Carving a mirrored version of a form.
Can be used in carving shoe forms for both legs from one reference model.

Artistic Aspects:
Beside copying and scaling artworks, there are many artistic potentials including:
Inversing an sculpture, creating new complex forms from simple objects, etc.

Please visit the photo gallery on the right side of this page for illustrative examples of an implemented prototype of this carving machine.

All samples provided here are made by the simple prototype machine just to present the proof of design functionality. The quality of carving, however, will be higher in the final manufactured machine. For example we can use a laser touching sensor rather than a mechanical sensor.

There is no limitation for carving material as long as you use a proper cutting tool. For example from a specific plastic model you can create a carved version from wood, glass, and metal, etc.
